Privacy and Freedom of the Press (Lecture by Samantha Barbas)

Please join Allegheny's Law & Policy Program, the Center for Political Participation, and Journalism in the Public Interest Program in welcoming professor and author Samantha Barbas to campus on Wednesday, March 28. Barbas will give a talk: Privacy and Freedom of the Press at 7 p.m. in the Tillotson Room, Tippie Alumni Center.

Professor Barbas researches and teaches in the areas of legal history, First Amendment law and mass communications law at the University at Buffalo. Her work focuses on the intersection of law, culture, media and technology in U.S. history. Her recent research has explored the history of the law of privacy and defamation. Barbas' book, “The Laws of Image: Privacy and Publicity in America,” on the history of libel and privacy, was published by Stanford University Press in 2015. She has written another book on privacy and freedom of the press, “Newsworthy: The Supreme Court's Battle Over Privacy and Freedom of the Press.”
