The Allegheny College Playshop Theatre will present “Everybody” Thursday through Sunday, November 14-17, in the Gladys Mullenix Black Theatre in the Vukovich Center for Communication Arts. The Thursday through Saturday shows start at 8 p.m. and the Sunday performance is at 2:30 p.m.

“Everybody” was a finalist for the 2018 Pulitzer Prize. Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ play is a playful, irreverent take on life as a game of chance that explores the final journey through life’s greatest mystery: What is the meaning of living?  At each performance, a lottery determines which cast member will play the character Everybody. The play does include some adult language.

Jacobs-Jenkins skewers contemporary views of religion, race, society and the media. Director Beth Watkins remarked: “Rehearsing the play has been challenging because there are multiple actors playing Everybody, but as a result, we’ve discovered new modes of interacting with the audience while using the playing space in unusual ways. The actors are exploring physical movement that has them breaking a lot of conventional boundaries.”

Guest costume designer Uriel Gomez, a 2012 Allegheny graduate, is returning to design the costumes for “Everybody.” He is collaborating with faculty designer Michael Mehler, who is designing scenery, and student Calli Lavarnway, who is designing lighting as her senior project in theatre design. Vev Estes is the stage manager. The acting company includes students Karen Guariloff, Matt Dugan, Avantaé Gonzalez, Vanessa Kocher, Amir Megherhi, Olivia O’Neill, Mary Walsh-Hilf and Emily Yasinsky and community members Doug Lodge, Ali Mahmood, Madelyn Mehler and Autumn Parker.

Tickets for all productions are $10 for adults and $8 for non-Allegheny students, senior citizens and Allegheny employees. For more information or to order tickets, contact the Playshop Theatre box office at (814) 332-3414 or at
