Allegheny College Associate Professor of Communication Arts/Theatre Ishita Sinha Roy will present “Nation Branding and ‘Manufacturing’ Indianness.”
According to India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “India is now the land of reform, perform and transform.” The Indian media has branded India’s economic nationalism with the term India Inc. Professor Roy will draw from her recent book and show the connection between this blend of corporate and government power and the recent campaign slogan of President Trump, “Make America Great Again.” Professor Roy will discuss how India’s place as the sixth-largest economy in the world and the influence of India Inc create intriguing complexities of globalization, especially when viewed through a non-western lens.
The address is part of the 2019-20 Karl W. Weiss ’87 Faculty Lecture Series, which features professors from various departments representing the diversity of scholarship at Allegheny. The lecture is free and open to the public.
